Health Trade Cluster

health

The Paris area counts nearly 50% of French public and private sector research spend in biotechnology, making it the clear national leader in this field. All the ingredients for a dynamic trade cluster are present:

  • a concentration of prestigious research-hospitals
  • numerous public and private-sector laboratories
  • a rich fabric of companies from innovative start-up to established trans-national corporations

Part of Paris Développement's mission is to promote Paris as a world class centre of excellence for human health, relying on its exisitng strengths, in particular in R&D (hospitals, Institutions, universities) and its corporate fabric. The objective is to provide a scientific and technological platform where clinical, technical and scientific research, can find practical applications through greater cooperation with industry.

Paris Développement has several initiatives to help foster cross-group discussions and projects, including corporate incubators dedicated to health sciences under Paris Biotech and Pasteur BioTop.

Paris Développement has also actively participated and sponsored projects in the field of health sciences, notably:

RETHINOPATHIES, is a 3-year project with a mission to find solutions to help delay premature aging in the retina.
The objective of this project is to develop tools and medical devices that detect retina deterioration at an early stage and enable continued monitoring of the retina to help treat the consequences of premature retina aging.

  • Project Cost: €4M
  • Pilot: Mauna Kea Technologies
  • Partners: L'Institut de la Vision (INSERM, CHNO, Université Paris Vl, Observatoire de Paris, CNRS, AP-HP, CEA, CHFJ- l'ESPCI), Mauna Kea Technologies, Fovea, Imagine Eyes

ATHIM is a 3 year project with a mission to reduce the risks of myocardiac infarctus and cerebral vascular trauma

  • The objective of the Athim project is to develop contrast elements used for the detection and identification of vulnerable arterial placques through magnetic resonance imagery (MRI) scanning and flourescent-fibre microscopy.
  • Project Cost: €1.747M
  • Pilot: Guerbet
  • Partners: INSERM, Mauna Kea Technologies, Guerbet

BIOTYPE is a 36-month project with a mission to identify molecular signatures

  • The objective of the Biotype project is to investigate the processes at the cellular and genetic levels that lead to cancer in order to enhance the level of personalisation for cancer treatments.
  • Project Cost: €4.6M, of which €384,000 from the Département de Paris
  • Pilot: Imstar
  • Partners: Sanofi-Aventis, Genomic Vision, Genewave, PartnerChip, Serial Genetics, Sibio, Armines, CEA, CeRePP/Hospital Tenon, Cedib, Institut Pasteur cliniques, CNRS, University Louis Pasteur Strasbourg

TENIU is a 36-month project with a mission to help non-invasive, ultrasound diagnostics and treatments

  • The objective of the Teniu project is to develop innovative medical solutions for the detection, diagnosis and treatment of fibrosis or cancer of the liver. A combination of high resolution elastographic impulses and ultra-sound technologies, are used to avoid biopsies or surgery in the case of early detection of tumeurs.
  • Project Cost: €5.98M, of which €500,000 from the Département de Paris
  • Pilot: Echsens
  • Partners: Theraclion, Navartis, AP-HP (Hospitals of Ambroise Paré, Henri Mondor, Jean Verdier, Necker, Antoine Béclere and Pitié-Salpetriere), CNRS, University Louis Pasteur Strasbourg
